Is learning a Second Language Good for my Child?

Nelly’s Childcare & Preschool strongly believes that teaching a child a second language is a remarkable gift and a door to future opportunities in a global economy. We are strong advocates that a child should be exposed to and taught another language to encourage additional learning, develop better brain function, and increase cognitive and language skills.

Most linguist experts are in agreement that the earlier a child is introduced to a second language, the greater the chances are that the child will become truly proficient in the language and speak like a true native. Additionally, extensive research on this subject shows that through the developing of this ability to communicate with more people, children may get other benefits from early language education, including superior SAT scores, standardized testing and advanced problem-solving skills.

Studies have also revealed that learning a language is much easier for younger children! Children under the age of ten are great mimics. If you immerse children in Spanish, they will learn more than just a word here or there – they will learn the feel, sound, and structure of Spanish, enabling them to quickly develop fluency and avoid developmental accents. In addition, younger children are enthusiastic language students, who are less self-conscious than older ones. Young children focus on instant communication and do not worry about making mistakes.

Nelly’s Childcare & Preschool understands that when children are taught a new language from the early stages of child development, they acquire a more sophisticated knowledge of languages in general, including their first language. Learning Spanish can help a child improve their English! This sensitivity to the way different languages work also makes it easier for children to learn 3rd, 4th and even 5th languages!

Nelly’s Childcare & Preschool is proud to provide all of our children with the tools to understand and communicate in Spanish, but also to teach our Pre-K level how to begin reading and writing in Spanish as well. We enjoy the opportunity to have your child grow with us, providing him/her with a great education, much care and full development.

What is Spanish Immersion?

It means that your child will be taught the entire curriculum in Spanish. He or she will be surrounded by people and activities conducted in Spanish throughout the day. Your child will experience the same classroom activities such as circle time, field trips, and playtime in Spanish, and without compromising the quality of education your family is looking for.

Our unique program is designed for all children, whether they have a Spanish background or not. All of our efforts rely on surrounding the child with a new language during his/her time at our center and providing the necessary tools to first, understand it, and then, being able to communicate in Spanish. Most importantly, learning a foreign language encourages critical thinking while having fun at the same time!
